HEAT EXCHANGER DESIGN
The American Petroleum Industry (API) has established standards for the design, fabrication and construction of welded steel storage tanks for storing oil. The most popular tanks available on the market today are the API 620 and API 650 models
API 650 provides minimum requirements for the design, material, construction, and testing for above ground with open or closed-top, cylindrical steel storage tanks   with different capacities and sizes, roughly equal to the pressure of the atmosphere (not greater than the weight of the roof plates).  If additional requirements are met, higher internal pressures are  also allowed.  API 650 only covers tanks that support the whole bottom and tanks in non-refrigerated service that have a maximum design temperature of 200 degrees F.   minimum material thickness of 3/16 inch.

API 650

1.    It can store  at a lower pressure (maximum of 2 ½ PSI) but  may at much higher temperature (-40 degrees F to 500 degrees F) than the standards of API 620.

2.    It can be any tank size can use.

API 620 

1.    It can used for products which have the high internal pressure such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) or cryogenic tanks.

2.    It can be stored contents at a higher pressure (maximum 15 pounds per square inch (PSI) of gas or vapor storage) and also lower temperature (-325 degrees F to 250 degrees F) than API 650.

3.    It can  be stored  any liquid 

A fixed roof tank 

 API storage tank, used for store liquids, consisting of a cone shape- or dome-shaped roof s that are permanently affixed to a cylindrical shell. Newer storage tanks are typically fully welded type and designed for both liquid- and vapor-tight. . A breather valve (pressure-vacuum valve), commonly  used in many fixed roof tanks, allows to tank  operate at a slight internal pressure or vacuum. This valve prevents to release of vapors during very small changes in temperature, pressure, or liquid level.

Fixed roof tank is typically used with products that have relatively  with low volatilities and flash points. Using a fixed roof tank , store  product with high volatility can lead to product losses and vapors escape the enclosure

External Floating Roof Tank

The external floating roof tank consists of an open-topped cylindrical steel shell  with a roof that floats on the surface of the stored liquid. That roof rising and falling with the liquid level. The floating roof is comprised With a deck, fittings, and rim seal system. Floating roof decks are to be constructed with welded steel plates and are of three general types: pan, pontoon, and double deck.Although numerous pan-type decks are currently  not in use,  present trend is  pontoon and double-deck type floating roofs.

Internal Floating Roof Tank

·         tanks has a self supporting fixed roof and  there is no internal support columns .
